Endometrial ablation is performed in the office with local anesthesia. It is reserved for women who bleed heavily with their menstrual cycles and who do not have an apparent medical reason for the heavy bleeding. Women who choose this procedure should not want future pregnancy and need to continue on a reliable plan to prevent pregnancy. The procedure causes complete cessation of menses in about 50% of patients. An additional 40% have a significant reduction in their menses, both in the number of days and the amount of menstrual flow. About 10% of patients do not have any improvement after the procedure. We perform 3 types of endometrial ablation: Novasure The particular procedure that is chosen for you depends on factors that will be discussed with your doctor during your consultation. The office visit for the procedure takes about one hour and most patients leave immediately after the completion of the procedure and return to normal physical activity the next day.
